No AKC for the ACC

As an ACC Code of Ethics breeder I'm pleased the ACC is taking a strong stand against the Coton de Tulear being recognized by the AKC. Cotons are a rare breed and we wish to save them from the exploitation of puppymills, pet stores, back yard breeders and brokers whose only concern is how much money the breed can make for them. When money is the main concern the care of the dogs diminishes, health and temperament diminishes as does the quality of the breed.

The Coton de Tulear deserves the protection a rare breed, code of ethics breed club and its breeders can afford them.

  1. In years to come I imagine there will be a distinct difference between the Cotons mixed in with the puppy mill registry of AKC and the purebred Coton de Tulear that will exist outside the AKC "Cotons". Primarily, those within AKC have historically had health problems increase dramatically within their breed. I would hate to see that happen to such a lovely and healthy breed as the Coton de Tulear.
