Aspen the Mama to be

The last puppy from our Winter litters will be leaving this week. But never fear, the stork will be making a Sringtime visit to Snowmass

Aspen is due to have her 2nd spectacular litter in April. She and my darling boy, Butter Boo, are going to be parents.

Aspen is a tri-color girl who did retain some color, Butter Boo is white. But Butter was born with champagne on his ears. Therefore I predict Aspen will have some white/champagne puppies and maybe tri-color, like herself.

After 3 litters of mink puppies, we will have a nice white Coton litter.

Mama is doing well, not showing yet, but will be soon. She was an excellent mother the first time around. Very attentive and loving. She still was nursing them at 10 weeks old.

She's a trooper.

The white Coton is the Daddy to be, Butter Boo. He needs a bath desperately and will post updated photos of him when I can.

Molly and Sierra..Spring clean

Sierra and Molly had a bath. It doesn't happen that often and it was a beautiful day so I took some photos out in the sun.

Although Molly has a lot of color in her coat, it is thick and big. She mats while you comb her, it's that big. The white is coming in like fury now that her adult coat is blowing in.

Sierra didn't lose much coat with her puppies. It's always nice when they maintain their nice coat. Her boy Tucker joined in for a photo.
Her mother Colby wasn't so lucky. She lost some coat with her puppies and had some mats so she was cut back.

Puppies chase Mommy......

Sierra still has her 2 boys, Tucker and Tanner here. Yesterday she got a bath then got to romp outside with her boys.

She set out with Tucker in hot pursuit, later joined by little Tanner. A little game of tag-you're-it began and all had a ball.

Then they boys came in for a little nappy.

It was a glorious Colorado day filled with sunshine and warmth.

In less than a week it should be Spring!!! Yeah!

Going Home

The puppies one by one are making their way to their forever homes where they will all be loved and treasured forever by their new families.
It is, for me, always a bittersweet, sometimes sad time.
A breeder begins anticipating and loving a litter well before the Mother goes into heat. Who should I mate her with, what do I want out of this litter, who will make beautiful puppies together.
You mate her with your best choice, then with hopeful anticipation wonder if she's pregnant. As you anticipate the arrival of your litter, you lovingly make sure your girl gets the best nutrition and all is well with her. She may go off food, you make every thing under the sun to see if she'll eat that. You make sure she's comfortable, none of the other dogs pester her, she gets exercise and supplements.
She starts getting bigger, the due date is closing in on you. You feel the puppies kick and you see her belly go up and down. You wonder what she's thinking.
You prepare the whelping box and nursery, hoping with all your heart everything goes well for your girl and all her puppies who will soon make their grand entrance into the world.
A few days before she's due, you take an x-ray and find out how many puppies you expect. That's always so exciting to see them all squished inside Mom just waiting to pop out.
Your girl goes into labor. Will she be ok. will she have them quickly, will everyone be healthy, what color and gender will the puppies be., will you end up at the ER? All these things go through your mind in a constant antagonizing way.
You wait and sit with your girl as she goes through the stages of labor, wishing beyond anything she could tell you what she needs, what she's thinking. She then quietly begins to push, you see a bubble, a puppy plops out. Hallelujah!
It's a boy, It's a girl! Woo hoo.
You document each birth...weight, sex, time etc. And then wait for the next one.
Hopefully your prayers are answered and they're all here safe and sound! All healthy, happy and fine! Mama cleans them so lovingly. Puppies are nursing with their tails bent down. All is well! Job well done! Time for ice cream!
You watch the puppies gain weight as they nurse and get bigger and bigger. You can't wait for them to open their eyes. When you see them look at you for the first time you just want to smile and say "hello there, welcome to the world"!
They begin to hear, walk, play, eat, run. Each time a miracle, a joy to witness.
They get even bigger. They come to you when called, they want to cuddle and kiss, go out and play, run under the sofa and pop out of the other side, all such a joy to behold!
They are troopers as they receive their first shots, then you get to take them out and about letting the whole world kiss and love them. A proud time for a breeder.
Then with a blink of an eye, it's time to say good-bye. So much joy for the new families who can not wait to hold their new babies in their arms and take them home.
Although it breaks my heart each and every time, it is as nature intended. They are mine but for such a small amount of precious time, I cannot keep them all, but love each and every one.
There is an unknown force who has connected these puppies with their new "people", the people they were put on this planet to be with forever. This is the purpose, the meaning of breeding. We are here to feel the joy, loss so that their families will feel the joy of being loved by a Coton.
Please enjoy Buffy and Bailey after bathing photos as they say good-bye to Old Snowmass and hello to their new Mommy tomorrow.

Tanner

Tanner aka Snowflake is the odd man out because he's so white compared to the other puppies. He's a wonderful boy who will be sticking around here for a while.

He has the cutest little body with the cutest little personality to along with it.

I look forward to seeing how he develops. hopefully into a beautiful representative of the Coton breed.

Buffy and Tucker After Bath

The little puppies had their first baths today, then were treated to a fine blow dry. Of course, they don't like it but they look so cute after they're all poofy.

They look just like little Teddy Bears.

Tucker (Schnapps) and Buffy (Wynter) did not want to sit still for their "official portraits".
Please Enjoy!

More play

There are 2 puppies from Colby's litter still here so all the puppies are now together, having fun with each other. Sierra's litter is old enough now to handle the older puppies and their rough play.

They have so much fun together. It is warm, snow is melting and the puppies love to play out in the snow, digging and finding treasures from last Fall.

It's Mine...No it's Mine!

More fun in the late Winter sun. As the snow melts, the puppies are finding all kinds of goodies out in the yard. Sticks, wood chips, toys etc. Once they find something fun, the one who finds it takes off with the others in hot pursuit.
Bailey seems to be the main stick finder then he taunts the others to chase him and play Tug of War.

Tucker started following Bailey around, they wrestled, then Tucker took off, so proud of his achievement.

Aspen and Snowflake frolic

Aspen and Snowflake had a chance to romp around today in the snow. He is so playful although such a small little boy.

She played along until he became a little too pesty for her mood.

Tug O' Wood

Zuzu and Bailey found a piece of wood today and went through quite the struggle. Lasted several minutes.
I'm not sure who won in the end. They're getting so strong.

Benji aka Clarence and Sophie aka Mary after bath

It's been 2 short months for me since the "It's a Wonderful Life" litter was born and now it's time they all go off to find their wonderful life with their new wonderful families.

Tradition dictates that they get baths before they leave so they're clean and fresh for their new Moms and Dads. I'm hoping they won't get into anything stinky before they actually leave. Sophie's on top, Benji on the bottom.
ere's wishing Benji and Sophie a long, happy and wonderful life!

Excited Sister!

This little girl is anxiously counting down the days until they can pick up their new Coton puppy Tucker aka "Schnapps". To help make the time go by a little faster she's made this paper chain for each waiting day. When the last chain is cut she knows Tucker will be in her arms.

I guess you could call this paper chain a Coton de Tulear advent calendar.

I think this is sooo cute and Tucker can't wait for the big day!
